About this Event
Forty Niner Country Club is an upscale, semi-private facility designed by William Francis Bell, a renowned golf course architect of the 1950s and ’60s. The course is celebrated for its lush, mature landscaping and excellent conditioning, lined with mesquite, giant cottonwood, eucalyptus, and weeping willow trees.
Opened in 1961, Forty Niner offers the same challenges that made it a PGA Tour stop over 35 years ago when it hosted the Tucson Open. Don January won in 1963, and Jack Cupit took the title in 1964. Local legend even claims that Jack Nicklaus once failed to make the cut on a Friday due to an 11 on hole #11!
The course demands accuracy off the tee and smart course management to navigate its quick, small greens.
Attention Golfers: The course is currently being dried out in preparation for overseeding. While fairways and tees are drying, the greens remain in good shape. The course will close on September 22, 2025, and is scheduled to reopen on October 10, 2025.
